Increased employment thanks to the opening of a logistics center in an American company

A NEW LOGISTICS center will open in Shannon and will employ over 50 people, creating jobs in the area.

HID, a global leader in identity solutions based in the US, announced the opening of its new logistics center, the second largest of its type, which will serve 55 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

The new 4,157 m2 logistics center is twice the size of the previous HID facility and employs 60 people, with plans to increase employment in the coming years.

The new center is strategically important to maintaining the global growth HID has experienced and demonstrates our commitment to supporting innovation and product availability throughout the region, said Josh Freeman, senior vice president and chief operating officer of HID.

The occasion was marked by an official ribbon cutting and a visit from local government and business leaders, as well as the HID operations leadership team.

Since 2006, HID’s growth and expansion in Ireland has truly been a great success story and the new center will enable us to serve our European customers even better, said Dara Calleary, Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation.

I am delighted that HID has chosen Shannon and the Mid-West region for its new expansion and I welcome any development opportunities, particularly in regional areas.

Shannon is growing in the technology space and having a global leader like HID open in this space is a very welcome addition. I wish the entire team all the best with the new expansion and continued success.

HID first established itself in the country in Tully, Galway, in 2006.

The company is best known in Ireland for providing the technology that enabled Ireland’s revolutionary Passport Card program, which was the first of its kind to enable travelers to cross borders in Europe using an electronic passport card rather than a traditional passport booklet.

In 2022, HID opened an award-winning center of excellence in Galway city, employing approximately 500 people.

Headquartered in Austin, Texas, HID employs more than 4,500 people worldwide and has international offices serving more than 100 countries.

As a leading technology solutions company operating in several high-growth markets, HID is a welcome addition to an established technology cluster in the Midwest, said IDA Ireland CEO Michael Lohan.

I wish HID and its team at Shannon every success with this expansion.
