Fourteen nominees for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 award

A total of 14 people were shortlisted for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) Malaysia 2023 awards in the emerging entrepreneur, technology entrepreneur, female entrepreneur and female lead entrepreneur categories. The nominees in the four categories were selected by a panel of independent judges using a set of judging criteria used globally by the EY EOY program.

The top nominees in the emerging entrepreneurs category are Ker Chin Keong from E Health Sdn Bhd, William Tan Wei Lun from ITMAX System Bhd, Ezra Tan Koon Hock from Kairos Harvest Sdn Bhd and Ian Chua and Venon Tian from ZUS Coffee.

The top nominees in the technology entrepreneurs category are Dr Raymond Choy from DOC2US, Giva Kuppusamy from GK Aqua Sdn Bhd and Tommy Lim from ICT Zone Asia Sdn Bhd.

For the women entrepreneurs category, the nominees are Dr Tan Hui Ling from Bagan Specialist Centre, Lee Hui Jing from BilaBila Mart and Sandy Tan Sing Yee from Optimax Holdings Bhd.

In the master entrepreneur category, the top three nominees are Vinesh Sinha from FatHopes Energy Sdn Bhd, Datuk Foong Wei Kuong from JF Technology Bhd and Ong Hang Ping from Sunview Group Bhd.

The winners of the four categories and the EY EOY 2023 Malaysia award will be announced at a ceremony in December. Next June, Malaysia’s EY EOY 2023 will join other national award winners in Monte Carlo, Monaco to compete for the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year 2024 award.

Ernst & Young Consulting Sdn Bhd and EY EOY Malaysia program director Philip Rao said the nominees go through a rigorous evaluation process that takes several months and includes thorough due diligence and interviews. The prestigious reputation of EOY programs continues to attract nominations from a variety of backgrounds and industries, reflecting the program’s unwavering commitment to maintaining unwavering standards and high standards, a tradition that has continued since its inception, he added.

The top nominees were selected based on global evaluation criteria that include entrepreneurial spirit, purpose-driven commitment and sustainable business, growth-oriented innovation in supporting a pioneering culture, and impact achieved through diversity and inclusion across multiple dimensions, Rao said.

Ernst & Young PLT Malaysia managing partner Datuk Abdul Rauf Rashid said the EOY program highlights the remarkable journey of forward-thinking business owners in Malaysia over the past 20 years.

These pioneers not only challenged the conventions of business as usual, but also continued to incorporate sustainable practices into their operations as they sought to reimagine building a better working world. We are proud to share their stories of success, recognizing not only what they have achieved, but also the indelible mark they leave on our communities and nation, he added.

The esteemed judges included: Aeon (M) Bhd Group Commodities and Marketing Director Low Ngai Yuen, Aerodyne Group Founder and CEO Kamarul A Muhamed, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Secretariats Tan Sri Rebecca Sta Maria, CEO Bursa Malaysia Bhd Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, founder and group managing director of Hyrax Oil Sdn Bhd Datuk Hazimah Zainuddin, chief digital investment officer of Malaysia Digital Economy Corp Raymond Siva and president and CEO of ViTrox Corp Bhd Chu Jenn Weng.
